We do not take that responsibility lightly. Maher is a leader in the development of innovative cargo documentation and management systems and we are constantly enhancing our facilities, upgrading our equipment and expanding our portfolio of customer services.

The Prince Rupert Port Authority reached an agreement with Maher Terminals of Berkeley Heights, New Jersey to manage and operate a new container handling facility at Fairview Terminal in Prince Rupert.  The selection of Maher Terminals as the future operator of the Prince Rupert container terminal follows a lengthy review and selection process of a number of international operators by the Port Authority.

This two-phase project will create a major container gateway on the West Coast of North America.  As a result of the agreement, the existing Fairview Terminal will be converted by the Port Authority from its current use as a bulk, breakbulk, and general cargo facility to a state-of-the-art container terminal.  The first phase of the project will provide 500,000 TEUs of annual container handling throughput capacity by late 2006/early 2007.  Phase II of development is targeted for completion during 2009 and will increase annual container handling throughput capacity to 2 million TEUs.  Maher Terminals will install a minimum of 3 super post panamax container cranes during Phase I enabling the facility to handle the largest generation of container vessels currently in existence or under construction.  The new Prince Rupert container terminal is expected to become a major hub for Midwest North American trade and will be served by the Canadian National (CN) Railway and will provide the most direct and convenient double-stack service for intermodal trade between Asia and central North America.

Commenting on the selection of Maher Terminals, Don Krusel, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Prince Rupert Port Authority stated, "We could not have asked for a better partner in our ambitions to make the Port of Prince Rupert the strategic gateway for trans-Pacific container cargo moving between Asia and the Mid-West of North America.  Maher Terminals has a reputation as an industry leader and has exceptional credentials amongst the Shipping Lines as a highly respected and trusted operator.  Most importantly, the entire management team at Maher Terminals shares the Port Authority's passion and vision for the future of the Port of Prince Rupert."
